Description:
While designing and testing a site it is often necessary to view the same pages numerous times in various browsers while testing them. As the browsers display the files they will typically store this data locally in their cache files. If the page is viewed again then the browser will look through its cache files and try and serve the page from here. Although this generally speeds up access to pages if the page changes then there is a strong chance that the browser will display old (cached) information.
An example:
All of the links on this page (including the one below*) will now have a cache busting code applied to the query string of the link. The query string is the bit after the page name and extension in the link that contains a question mark and a load of other 'stuff'.
Roll over the following link and see how the end of the URL will change every time the page is refreshed. Because the link changes like this the browser sees the page as new and is forced to get the data from the server rather that it's cache.

Using the action:
Apply and forget about it! It can't really get easier that this.
The only control in the action is the Activate checkbox so that the action can be deactivated without removing it from the page.
Once applied and activated (the action is activated by default) the next time your page is published all of the links on the page will have the cache busting code applied to them.
Requirements:
Cache Buster is a Freeway 3.1 action.
Browser compatibility:
Cache Buster requires a browser that is capable of running JavaScript.
*There appears to be a problem with Apple's Safari browser although, hopefully, there will be a fix for this soon.
