Description:
Using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) it is possible to style list items so that they display user defined images rather than the standard bullet, number or letter of the alphabet.
For example this is a standard unordered list;

  • item 1
  • item 2
  • item 3

And here is the same list after we apply the list item images action to it;

  • item 1
  • item 2
  • item 3

Those browsers that don't support CSS will simply display the standard list style as if you hadn't applied the action in the first place.

Adding the action to your pages:

The action can either be applied to a page or text box. If, for example, you have several text area and each should have it's own unique list style then it can be applied to each in turn where different settings can be made.

To add this action to your Freeway pages follow the ' Applying Page Actions ' guidelines. Alternatively apply the action to a specific text box by following the ' Applying Item Actions ' guidelines.

To apply the action to an HTML text box (blue bordered) simply select the item and select Actions.../ List item images from the Item menu.

Using the action:
Once applied to either the page or item all of the settings relating to the action can be viewed and set from the List item images tab in the Actions palette. If the palette is not visible simply select Actions from the Window menu and the palette will open (figure 1.2).

The Activate check box is something that you will find in a lot of these actions as it allows action code to be disabled without needing to be removed from the item which would, in turn, lose any of the user settings applied to it. It allows users to quickly add and remove action functionality very quickly and easily.

Below the Activate check box is the only other control item- that of Image. Use this to select the image that will be placed in the list instead of the bullet, number or text entry. Make sure that the image is of a suitable size as large images can run into themselves and look rather odd.
Although you will not be able to view the results of your list efforts in Freeway a simple preview in any CSS enabled browser will allow you to check the results.

Requirements:
To add List item images functionality to your web pages you will need Freeway 3.1 or higher.

Browser compatibility:

Any browser that supports CSS. From user feedback this seems to exclude Netscape Communicator.
