Flurry

Description:
The Flurry action is a bit of fun. As you can hopefully see on this page it allows us to easily animate items in a rain fall, or snow flurry, effect.

Because the floating items are created from layers rather than just images they can contain anything you can normally place in a layer item. In this example we have used simple PNG graphics (notice the transpancy in the hearts) but you could have HTML text, tables, forms, whatever you want really! Just bear in mind that the user may find it impossible to click on any links that are flying past!

Adding the action to your web pages:
Applying the action to a specific layer item is really easy. Create your design for the floating object as normal in Freeway and make sure that it is defined as a layer in the inspector palette.
We found it best to move our layer item off of the page and position it on the pasteboard. For more information on applying item actions please follow the 'Applying Item Actions' guidelines.

Using the action:
Using the action is very easy. Once applied to your layer item (see the 'Adding the action to your web pages' section above) the action's controls can be set using the actions palette (Window/Actions menu). Other than the 'Activate' checkbox which simply turns the action on and off without having to remove it totally the action only has three main controls. These are;

  • Count - This is the number of objects you want to float on each page. Be aware that the more you have may cause the browser to slow down as it has to shift these objects around. You should also be aware that objects will prevent users from interacting with the section of the page that is directly under the object. A 1000 snow flakes may seem like a good idea but if your user can't click on any of the links to get off of the page then you may lose that visitor.

  • Speed - The object's rate of decent from the top of the page to the bottom.

  • Drift - This is the amount of sway or horizontal drift applied to the object. Higher values will increase the object's horizontal movement as it descends.

  • FreewayPro 3 or higher including Freeway Pro 6
  • This action will not run on any version of Freeway Express (due to it's lack of layer support)
